Variables in Speech Therapy: A crucial consideration for effective outcome

 As a speech therapist , understanding the variables that impact treatment outcomes is essential for providing effective intervention. Variables can influence the success of therapy. It helps the clinician to identify their role and can help clients tailor their approach to meet individual needs. Types of variables in speech therapy : 1 . Independent variables : Therapy approaches , duration of therapy , and frequency —these all come under independent variables , which the clinician controls. 2. Dependent variables: Language skills , articulation , rate of speech , mean length of utterance , intelligibility , vocabulary These are all department variables, which are outcome measures of independent variables. 3. Control variables : Same therapy room, materials, test tools , therapist, and duration of therapy—these all come under control variables , where the clinician keeps them constant. 4.
